Our part of the city

The boundaries of Heathcote Valley can be a bit vague, and sometimes we like to include places that are not strictly part of the valley. Officially Heathcote Valley, on the map, begins at Mongomery Spur to the west, and extends to Mt Pleasant in the east. with the southern boundary following the Summit Road. To the north, the boundary starts at Montgomery Spur above Avoca Valley, then follows Port Hills Road as far as Scruttons Road, where it takes an abrupt turn as far as the railway line. The boundary then follows the railway line as far as Truscotts Road, before veering to follow the residential area that includes Highlight Lane and Cooks Lane, as far as Bridle Path Road. At Bridle Path Road the boundary heads back to the north to take in Hammerton Lane, then it extends up to the ridgeline above Morgan's Valley, where it then heads back towards the Summit Road. You'll notice a wart on the right hand side of the acompanying map that strangely takes in Mt Pleasant reserve, including the Mt Pleasant summit! Avoca, Horotane and Butts valleys are included in the western part of the Heathcote Valley suburb, as is Morgan's Valley to the east. Many areas that we consider part of our neighbourhood actually belong in the neighbouring Ferrymead suburb. However, because they form an important part of our local community, we include them here, even though we can't technically claim them as our own.
